Turquoise
The name turquoise apparently derives from the fact that it was originally brought to Europe by the Turks who considered it lucky. Ancient Arabians called it "Fayruz", meaning "lucky stone". Turquoise was one of the first gems to be mined in the Sinai peninsular and Iran. In Central America the Aztecs mined turquoise in what is now known as New Mexico.
